Becoming a flight attendant does not necessarily require completing formal education, though you will greatly increase your chances of becoming a flight attendant if you do complete the proper schooling. In fact, most airlines won’t even consider interviewing you unless you have at least two years of college, experience with public relations, or a formal education in flight attendant school.
Since becoming a flight attendant is not as easy as it was long ago, you will have to be certain to receive specialized training if you want to set yourself apart from your competition. If you are interested in becoming a flight attendant that works on international flights, for example, you will have a better chance of receiving a job if you know at least one foreign language.
When considering becoming a flight attendant, you will need to keep in mind that you will be away from home quite often. If you are married or have children, becoming a flight attendant can be stressful for these family members. This is particularly true in the earlier part of your career, as you will essentially need to be on call for the first year after becoming a flight attendant. During this time, you will need to take pretty much every flight assignment that is thrown your way.
If you are interested in becoming a flight attendant, you will need to keep an eye on job openings within various airlines. When a position is open, apply for the position and hope for an interview. The more customer service experience you have and the more education you have, the greater chance you will have of getting that interview and finally getting your foot in the door.
After you have built up your seniority with the airline, you will be able to create a more regular schedule. Even so, becoming a fight attendant will require frequent travel and you may be away from home for several nights. If you love to travel and being away from home is not a problem for you, however, becoming a flight attendant just might be the perfect job for you!
