Hospitality and tourism management involves handling the regular day-to-day functions of a hotel. In larger hotels, an entire hospitality and tourism management team may work to make the hotel successful and to please the guests of the hotel. At smaller hotels, on the other hand, the hospitality and tourism management team may consist of just one or two people.
If the hotel has a larger hospitality and tourism management team, each member of the team is typically responsible for a particular aspect of the hotel management. For example, one member of the hospitality and tourism management team might be responsible for the food services offered by the hotel while another member of the hospitality and tourism management team might oversee the security aspect of the hotel.
Whether an entire hospitality and tourism management team is used or if only one or two people oversee the management of the hotel, the same areas must be properly managed in order for the hotel to be a success. For example, the hospitality and tourism management team must make sure all of the hotel services are properly run. These include reception, concierge, catering, and reservations. In addition, the hospitality and tourism management team must also work at controlling the budget and making financial plans for the hotel.
The hospitality and tourism management team also must make sure all health, safety, and licensing regulations are properly met within the hotel. To that end, the hospitality and tourism management team must be sure to hire and train capable staff as well as overseeing their duties to make sure they are properly carried out. Furthermore, the hospitality and tourism management team must meet with contractors and suppliers in order to make sure the proper supplies are provided for the hotel and that the proper work is completed on the hotel grounds.
