The Bureau goes on to claim that the flight attendant average salary for those falling within the middle 50% of earnings earned somewhere between $31,310 and $67,590. The flight attendant average salary for those in the bottom 10% of the earnings scale, on the other hand, earned less than $23,450 while those in the highest 10% earned over $95,850.
The Association of Flight Attendants reports that the flight attendant average salary for those just entering the field was $15,552 in 2004, though the beginning flight attendant average salary varied greatly by carrier. Furthermore, those working extra hours are paid accordingly while some airlines also offer increases in pay for flight attendants that work nights, holidays, and international flights.
When it comes to determining the flight attendant average salary, it should be noted that the pay is generally based on a minimum of working 65 to 85 flight hours per month. The time flight attendants spend on the ground, however, is not paid for. At the same time, flight attendants are typically supplied with a per diem allowance with which they can purchase meals while on duty at a location away from home. Similarly, flight attendants and their immediate family are often able to receive free or discounted airfare, which is not included when figuring the flight attendant average salary.
