If you are interested in a flight attendant career, it is important that you have an understanding of what a flight attendant career entails. By having a better understanding of the responsibilities associated with the flight attendant career, you can better determine if this is the right career path for you to follow.
When you pursue a flight attendant career, you must understand that your primary purpose is to ensure the safety of those on the flight. Legally, airlines must put flight attendants in place for this very reason. Although this is the primary responsibility of the flight attendant, a flight attendant career also involves simply making sure the passengers are comfortable and are experiencing an enjoyable flight.
When pursuing a flight attendant career, you need to be prepared for spending some time on the job on the ground as well as in the air. In fact, you will generally be called upon to arrive at least an hour before each of your flights so you can be briefed by the captain. This briefing includes going over emergency evacuation procedures, discussing the length of the flight, getting the crew coordinated, and providing an overview of the weather conditions expected during the flight.
If you pursue a flight attendant career, you will also be called upon to make sure the plane is properly prepared for flight. This includes making sure the cabin is proper order and that all of the necessary supplies are onboard, including beverages, food, and more. In addition, you job as a flight attendant is to check the passenger tickets, to greet passengers, and to help passengers store their carry-on items properly.
As part of the fight attendant career responsibilities, you will also provide passengers with safety instructions before the plane takes off. This includes telling passengers how to properly fasten their seatbelts and how to use emergency equipment. Furthermore, the flight attendant ensures seats are in the upright position and that passengers are properly prepared for the flight.
