When you pursue your hospitality management degree, you will have many different areas of specialty that you can choose to focus on. If you choose to focus your hospitality management degree on Food Management and Operations, the courses you will need to take will fit accordingly with this future goal. For example, you might take classes in Food Science, Food Preparation, Food Selection, and Food and Beverage Operations.
If you pursue a hospitality management degree with a concentration in Food Management and Operations, it should be noted that you are not actually the chef. Rather, you oversee the chef and all of the operations of the restaurant that you oversee. While it is possible to be both the chef and the manager of a restaurant, the two positions are typically separate.
In order to prepare you for a career in Food Management and Operations, the classes you take to earn your hospitality management degree will help you understand how to properly handle and care for food. The classes you take for your hospitality management degree will also help you learn how to select the best food that will please your patrons while also allowing your restaurant to remain profitable. Although you will take classes in food preparation, this is primarily so you can oversee the operations and fill in for chefs when necessary.

When you pursue your hospitality management degree with an emphasis in Food Management and Operations, you will also learn how to properly budget for the restaurant and even how to arrange the furniture in order to help your patrons have the best dining experience possible.
