Pilots License

Obtain Pilots License

TravelEarning your pilot license is a fairly lengthy process that involves proving your flying ability as well as your ability to recall specific information. Before you can apply for your pilot’s license, however, you must complete an extensive amount of training. This training involves completion of both flight experiences as well as bookwork.

In most cases, you will be required to complete 250 logged hours of flight experience before you can apply for your pilot license. After completing the coursework and the flight experience training, you will need to successfully pass a health examination before you can receive your pilot license. The examination you must take is to determine whether or not you are physically fit for flight. Therefore, you need to have 20/20 vision, either with or without glasses and good hearing. You must also be free from any physical handicaps that could get in the way during flight.

If you want to obtain a commercial pilots license that will permit you to fly for commercial airlines, you will need to undergo additional training and meet further requirements. Specifically, you will need to work toward obtaining an airline transport pilot license. In order to qualify for this pilot license, you must be at least 23 years old rather than meet the 18 year old age requirement of the standard commercial pilot’s license.

The number of hours you must complete in order to receive an airline transport pilot license is also far greater than for a standard commercial pilot license. Rather than logging just 250 hours of flight, you must log 1,500 hours of flying in order to obtain an airline transport pilot license. The fight experiences required for an airline transport pilot license must include night and instrument flying.

Although you can obtain an airline transport pilot license without taking psychological tests, many airlines require successful completion of these courses in order to be employed. This is largely because commercial airline pilots must be able to make quick decisions.
