If you are interested in obtaining a private pilot license, there are several things you should know. First of all, the requirements for obtaining a private pilot license are different from a commercial pilot license, though there are many similarities as well. For example, you will still be required to complete a certain amount of flight hours before you can obtain your private pilot license. At the same time, the number of hours you need to complete for a private pilot license is less than the number of hours you need to complete for an airline transport pilot license.
Although you do not need to complete as many hours of in-flight experience in order to earn a private pilot license, you do still have to pass a strict physical. As such, you will not be able to acquire a private pilot license if you have any physical issues that could impede your flying abilities. This means your vision has to be correctable to 20/20 or be 20/20 without glasses. Similarly, you must have good hearing and must be free of physical handicaps that could get your in the way of flying.
If you wish to find employment as a pilot, a private pilot license is not sufficient. With a private pilot license, you can only carry yourself and one passenger that is not paying you for your services. If you wish to fly for business purpose, you will have to undergo additional training and testing.
With a private pilot license, you can fly yourself to and from various locations. Therefore, if you are interested in flying for fun or even flying as a faster means of travel, you can make this possible by obtaining a private pilot license and purchasing or renting an airplane.
